MEDJUGORJE - An Oasis of Peace

The place is St. James Parish in the remote village of Medjugorje, 30 miles south of Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, in what was then known as Yugoslavia. On June 24, 1981, two teenage girls, Ivanka and Mirjana, were walking along the hillside just outside the village when they suddenly saw, high on the hillside, a phenomenon which they recognized as the "Gospa" (the Blessed Virgin Mary). They were soon joined by two others, Vicka and Ivan, and the following day by two more children, Marija and Jakov.

Many of the villagers, upon hearing the story from the youngsters, did not believe. However, within two days 3,000 people from surrounding areas flocked to the hillside with the children. When the six visionaries began to pray at the site, all in attendance saw brilliant flashes of light, signaling the arrival of Our Lady, the Mother of Jesus. The apparition identified herself as the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace. She stated that she was bringing an urgent message for mankind to return to God. She said to the children: "I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is fullness of life, and to enjoy the fullness and obtain peace, you must return to God." From that day to the present, she has been appearing to the seers daily. She has given them thousands of messages - for themselves, for the parish, for the region and for the world. During the apparitions, the visionaries do not react to light or sound; they do not react to being touched. They feel they are outside of time and space.

All the visionaries declare in substance: "We see the Blessed Virgin as we see all other people. We pray and we speak with her." Our Lady presented herself as a servant messenger from God. The message she brought does not convey any new teachings, but echoes the Gospels and teachings of the Church. These messages quickly began to appear around the world in many languages reaching many millions of people.

DAY 1 DUBROVNIK
Arrive at Dubrovnik airport and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 2 DUBROVNIK - MEĐUGORJE
Morning sightseeing of Dubrovnik, a city on UNESCO`s list of Protected World Cultural Heritage. After lunch departure for MEĐUGORJE. Arrive in the late afternoon, in time for the evening mass at the parish church of St. Jacob.

DAY 3 MEĐUGORJE
Since the first apparition of Our Lady on 24th June 1981, Međugorje has become one of the most famous and most visited sanctuaries in the Catholic world (over 10 million pilgrims have visited Međugorje). Climb the Apparition Hill by the way of the rosary, marked by wooden crosses and bronze relief's. Evening service.

DAY 4 MEĐUGORJE - SINJ - SOLIN - SPLIT
Morning drive to Sinj, well-known for the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Sinj, believed to have saved its citizens several times from the Turkish attacks. In 1752 Pope Benedict XIV granted a plenary indulgence to those who visit the church of the Holy Virgin Mary in Sinj. Lunch in Sinj. Continue our drive to Split, via Solin where we visit the remains of the oldest Croatian sanctuary to Mary, built by the Croatian queen Jelena in the 10th century. Dinner and overnight in Split.

DAY 5 SPLIT - TROGIR - ZADAR
Sightseeing of the Diocletian`s palace, under UNESCO's protection of World Cultural Heritage, including the Cathedral of St. Duimus, patron saint of Split. After lunch, continue to Trogir for a visit of the Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque Art. Dinner and overnight in Zadar.

DAY 6 ZADAR - RIJEKA - TRSAT
City tour of Zadar including the Museum of Zadar`s Gold and Silver. Lunch followed by departure to Rijeka. The legend of Trsat sanctuary began with transferring of Mary´s house from Nazareth to Trsat in 1291 and three years later to Loretto, Italy. The church of Our Lady of Trsat was named basilica minor by the Pope Pius XI in 1935. We will tour the church housing the miraculous picture of St. Mary, the Franciscan cloister and the Chapel of votive offerings. Dinner and overnight in Rijeka.

DAY 7 RIJEKA - ZAGREB - REMETE - MARIJA BISTRICA
City tour of Zagreb including St Stephen's Cathedral and St Mark`s Church. Lunch and departure for Remete to visit the church of St. Mary, labeled Celestial Pharmacy thanks to the miraculous events, witnessed by church medallions. Drive to Marija Bistrica for the evening service. Dinner and overnight in Donja Stubica.

DAY 8 MARIJA BISTRICA
Finding of the statue of St. Mary with the child, followed by numerous miracles in the past centuries, turned this village into the largest and most visited Croatian sanctuary. In 1924 Pope Pius XI proclaimed the church Basilica minor. We shall pray on the Way of the Cross, marked by stone and bronze sculptures. Dinner and overnight in Donja Stubica.

DAY 9 ZAGREB Departure
Transfer to Zagreb airport for your flight home.
